hot summer day

it's been so hot lately.  in the balcony, basil is growing
more than i can keep up with eating.  they are getting
gigantic and now began flowering and producing seed.
today, i trimed some more for pizza.  bitter melon
is in their last growth spurts and there are about
several more fruits to be harvested in few days.
although, it won't be any harvest any time soon,
two of my new veges, potatoes and asparagus, are
doing well, growing taller and greener.  it is
interesting to see new vege growing like this
in own place.  thyme, oregano, mint, and other herbs are
spreading their roots to search any available water on
the concreat while i am gone to work during the
day.  by the end of the day when i can finally
water them, they become already wilted.
as soon as i shower them with plenty of fresh
water, they seem to jump out and realived.
summer is all about seeing plants growing, listening
to cicada sing ...and eating water melon!

first harvest: bitter melon salad pickle

i was able to harvest my very first bitter melon this
afternoon and made salad pickle(pickle salad) with it.
cabbage, bitter melon, carrot, cucumber
all slice very thin,
sprinkle bit of salt and let it sit for 10-15 minutes
add vinegar & sugar
chill in the refrigerator for about 2hrs
i thought my oregano never flowers...
but finally blooming this year.  this means,
i can probably collect the seed!

garden visit like last year

due to so high humidity along with hotness,
i had forgotten to visit lotus garden lately.
as i recall, it was during end of june when
lotus was in full bloom welcoming all the visitors.
it is almost end of july!  all of the sudden, i remember
this amazingly beautiful site.  so, i walked up there
during lunch break.  it was another hot day with
temp about 30℃ with humidity 80%.
* click the photo for garden tour.

only this portion was in autumn color.
could this be different kind of maple?

looks like an alien from outer space, doesn't it?

i am so glad that i was able to catch this
again this year.

i did accomplish one thing this morning.  i sewed
summer linen bag and this made me feel wanting to
continue sewing some more other things.
long time ago, i bought a package of sunflower
bird seed.  birds can eat but i can also enjoy them
in my garden and sprinkled some in the garden.
soon, there will be vibrant golden yellow
in the garden.
easy gather skirt.
love the softness and summerly design.
two sewing completed in one day.  i am
so satisfied with both of them.

july window

my bitter melon's green curtain is expanding arms and
legs throughout the window.  each morning,
i see the window getting greener and greener.
countless numbers of fruits are growing and the
largest one to be harvested soon.
how is yours, claudia?
at the end of the season, if i get lucky enough to
harvest seed, any one interested in receiving?
let me know.
wish your weekend is beautiful

linen bath mat

i tried to finish before summer starts or before summer
ends.  working on few lines every day, i finally made
it through.  i like clunchy texture of linen beneath my
feet and it is such a luxury.
